I'm finally fulfilling my turbo dreams!
http://b-pro.ca/product/1995-l…
Check it out
The good
Brand spankin new tires and fresh coolant
The bad
This car has been driven through what looks to be at least 300 rally stages
Thanks to the help of our resident scoobie expert, boxer_4, I learned the car's ej20g has a semi closed deck so its head gaskets won't crap out, and the fact the auction grade is 3.5 despite all those scuffs means, to me at least, that the car must be mechanically sound. If anyone has any objections before this car and I are wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.

This picture to me is pure sex. So much lack of rust. Living in Michigan, I almsot forget cars start out without it.

These wear their scars well, the sort of car where you imagine every little bit of damage has a cool story.

I have no objections, but I will tell you that my '02 WRX wagon ruined me financially. So here's my advice:
-Start saving now. You need a repair fund. This is not a Honda or a Toyota. You can't drive it for 250,000 miles, and you can't beat the crap out of it and expect to stay out of the shop.
-If the transmission or either of the diffs quits, or if you need to replace the clutch, do it yourself. The labor costs will bury you, and there are plenty of online tutorials.
-Set the camber to flat, front and back, or you're going to chew through tires like Swedish Fish. The factory camber is
not flat
.
-Get a Mishimoto or equivalent radiator unless you love the smell of 50/50.
-Don't drive it like a performance car all the time. Once in a while is fine, but don't get too comfortable with the quick acceleration unless you love the smell of gear oil.

That is a whole hell of a lot of money for a 20 year old car, friend.

Well this car is going to be my winter commuter mostly. Maybe I'll do one or two ice rallies but I sure won't be beating the crap out of it. The only planned mod is to coat the whole bottom portion of the body in rubberized rockerguard so hopefully it lasts me a winter or two at that mileage before anything major goes wrong. That's the hope at least.
Thanks for being candid. Are there any tell tale symptoms for the tranny or diffs going?

Did you see the milage? 70k kms. 5 grand is the going rate for a running, inspection passing car where Im from and that mileage makes this car a good buy, especially considering it's a 250hp wrx.

If you are set on buying it; why are you asking if people have any objections?
I hope it runs well and is a blast to drive. best of luck with the purchase.

Well because I've learned more from having a conversation with a few opponauts about the early wrxs than I ever would have reading forums for a whole week. I've also never imported a jdm car and was hoping someone would give me a reason not to in case my naivety got me in trouble. There's no harm in asking. Thanks for the luck. Seeing as Im buying a car I've never seen in person, in guessing I'll need it.

Well, you've come to the right place. Opponauts are known for their sound financial decisions.
But hold on a minute, let me invite Tavarish to this discussion, he may have something even better in store for you.

My transmission went out pretty quick. It was just a grinding in 2nd gear, and then the whole thing was done within a day. It was pretty similar with the diff.
It should be noted, however, that mine is a completely different generation. I had the EJ20, but the turbo kicked it up to 225 hp, and I don't think Subaru was ready for that with the rest of the car.
